Latest News Update: British Airways Worker Convicted in U.K. Terror Plot

Rajib KarimLONDON (BBC News Blog) – A jury convicted a previous British Airways pc specialist on Monday of plotting with U.S.-born extremist cleric Anwar al-Awlaki to blow up an airplane.

Rajib Karim, a 31-year-old Bangladeshi gentleman, was convicted of 4 counts of engaging in preparing for terrorist attacks. He had currently pleaded guilty to other, lesser, terrorism offenses.

Prosecutors mentioned he employed his place in the airline to plot an assault with al-Awlaki, a notorious radical preacher related to al-Qaida believed to become hiding in Yemen.

In seriously encrypted exchanges, Al-Awlaki quizzed Karim about particulars of safety flaws and urged the aspiring terrorist to train like a flight attendant to help ideas to make use of suicide bombers or mail bombs to down U.S.-bound flights.

Karim, who was arrested at his BA desk in February 2010, was convicted right after a trial at Woolwich crown Court in London.
