BBC News USA:  Injuries Reported Immediately after Tornado Touches Down at St. Louis Airport

ST. LOUIS (BBC News Blog) – A number of persons at Lambert Airport in St. Louis were injured Friday soon after an apparent tornado touched down, spewing particles about the airfield, bursting glass inside the concourse and damaging autos atop a parking garage.

Unconfirmed tornadoes have been reported in numerous counties while in the St. Louis area.

Lambert spokesman Jeff Lea reported he didn’t right away have data about how many men and women were damage, or how badly. He claimed the injuries were thought to become from glass that shattered as the storm hit the airport. An Air National Guard facility at the airport was reportedly ruined.

Lea reported various autos parked at the airport were broken. He failed to yet know if any planes ended up affected, or if any flights were delayed or canceled.

Harm, maybe from a tornado, was also reported at numerous towns near the airport — Maryland Heights, Bridgeton, St. Ann, Ferguson and Florissant. Interstate 270 in that region was closed. Trees and power lines have been down. A tractor-trailer was sitting on its finish.

Unconfirmed tornadoes have been documented in the vicinity of New Melle and Dardenne Prairie in St. Charles County. St. Charles County Sheriff’s Lt. Craig McGuire claimed there were early reviews of no less than twenty properties damaged inside the county.

“It was really wicked,” he claimed.

In downtown St. Louis, Busch Stadium officials hurriedly moved Cardinals enthusiasts to a protected spot as tornado sirens blared. The sport with the Cincinnati Reds was delayed for hrs.

The utility corporation Ameren Missouri reported a lot more than 39,000 power outages.
